Legal Stuff

There's a lot of stuff to arrange when you're traveling.  The obvious one is a visa.  Each country has different requirements about the length of time that you're able to stay on a tourist visa.  Most countries (in Europe) don't require American citizens to have a visa, but some require Canadians to have one.  Check before you go!  These government sites have a lot of general information that is really helpful.

There is also a lot about terrorism on these sites after September 11.  People are more afraid to travel right now, and you can find some excellent deals.  Personally, I don't think that anyone should live in fear.  If you are too afraid to enjoy your life, what kind of a life is that?

There are certain countries that are dangerous to travel to, because of war or their attitudes towards American.  Check the travel warnings page for those.
